THE SPIRIT OF 1897

Our founding fathers Herman Beckley and Marshall Lewis were whiskey history enthusiasts. To honor their dedication to the craft and to the Act protecting reputable distillers from counterfeit and inferior products Herman Marshall releases each Fall a limited amount of Bottled-in-Bond expression of our flagship whiskey. Composed of the same kind of spirits distilled from the same class of materials;

  1. Distilled in the same distilling season by the same distiller at the same distillery.
  2. Stored for at least 4 years in wooden containers.
  3. Unaltered from its original condition or character by the addition or subtraction of any substance.
  4. Reduced in proof by the addition of only pure water to 50 percent alcohol by volume.
  5. Bottled at 50 percent alcohol by volume.

Tasting Notes
Complex with warm spice, with a long, smooth, sweet and dry finish.

Aroma
Mild caramel and light wood with hints of gingerbread and apple.

Ingredients
2 ounces Herman Marshall Straight Rye Whiskey
1 ounce sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish: brandied cherry (or lemon twist, if preferred)

Steps
Add the rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters into a mixing glass with ice and stir until well-chilled. Strain into a chilled glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry (or a lemon twist, if preferred).
